Live From The Streets with Sean Price & Mr. Green (Video)

Sean Price did one of his very last interviews with DJ/producer extraordinaire Mr. Green to shoot an episode of his Live From The Streets series not long before his passing in August of 2015. If you are unfamiliar with the show, Green would head out into the streets of different cities around the world where he would collect audio samples from street musicians, regular people he encountered and the environment. He would then pull those disparate sounds together to create a beat and have an MC come in to lay down bars over the final product.

A number of notable rappers have participated in the series including Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, A$AP Ferg, KRS-One, Waka Flocka and Deniro Farrar, among others. But if you remember this video that dropped when Sean was preparing for the release of Songs In The Key of Price, you’ll recall released to the public and as it turns out, it represents of one of Sean’s very last interviews before his passing.

The episode begins with Green breaking down how he pulled together samples from the streets of Bogota, Colombia to create the beat for this installment and then cuts to footage of him interviewing P and their studio session. Sean speaks on his writing process, which he explained with an example from the Sean Connery film Finding Forrester, and describes how he came up with the opening lines of the now classic “Figure Four” freestyle. Beyond that, the interview is classic Price, with him joking around and just generally subverting your expectations of what a rapper interview should sound like. At the end, we get to hear P’s verse, which is probably one of the last he ever recorded.

Sean’s new album Imperius Rex arrives on the 2nd anniversary of his passing, August 8th.
