Jay Z Talks Kalief Browder, Rikers Island at Sundance

During a brief interview with Democracy Now at the Sundance Film Festival, Jay Z spoke on his interactions with late New York City teenager Kalief Browder and offered his opinion on the ongoing movement to permanently close the Rikers Island jail complex. Jay was at Sundance (you may have seen a clip of him shutting down a reporter’s Trump question) to promote Time: The Kalief Browder Story, the documentary he co-produced with Harvey Weinstein. Coincidentally, today marks the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s end to solitary confinement for juveniles in the federal system, which he has stated was inspired in part by Kalief’s story. Catch the documentary on the Spike network when it debuts March 1st. Jacked from NR.
